Multi-Year Collaboration Agreement between the Galician Forest Industry Agency (XERA) and the University of Santiago de Compostela
A multi-year collaboration agreement between the Galician Forest Industry Agency (XERA) and the University of Santiago de Compostela to promote the use of chestnut and its contribution to decarbonizing the construction sector.
Period: 2023–2025
Budget: €351,653.01
The main goal of this agreement between XERA and USC-PEMADE is to promote the use of native broadleaf species, especially chestnut, as a strategic axis to decarbonize buildings and promote local timber. To achieve this, activities focus on:
Investigating the regulatory feasibility of chestnut timber with high moisture content.
Developing mixed timber–concrete floor systems that optimize material use.
Enhancing the TRABE structural calculation software with new functionalities.
The project concludes with dissemination and technical training through educational videos, facilitating the successful integration of these sustainable solutions by manufacturers and specifiers in their construction processes.
