The LIFE Wood for Future project is a Climate Change mitigation initiative under the EU LIFE Programme, aimed at restoring the poplar groves of the Vega de Granada to enhance biodiversity and achieve long-term carbon sequestration using structural bioproducts.

The project is located in the Vega de Granada region, focusing on areas where intensive agricultural cultivation has replaced poplar plantations, covering 15 municipalities. Beyond this region, the project aims to replicate and transfer its results to other regions in Spain and across the EU, giving it a demonstrative purpose.

Expected results:

Creation of a Poplar Ecoproducers Association and a certified nursery in Granada.

Development of a silvicultural model for environmental improvement and timber quality assessment tools (TIK).

Inclusion of poplar in EN 1912 as a structural species and creation of construction bioproducts.

Restoration of 2 km of riverbanks and implementation of carbon farming schemes.
