LIFE EcoTimberCell

Ecological Cellular Structural Systems for a Model Building to Mitigate Climate Change and Promote the Forestry Sector (LIFE 17 CCM/ES/74)

Period: 2017–2020

Budget: Co-financed by the European Union LIFE Programme. Total budget: €2,003,142

Consortium:

  • PEMADE – University of Santiago de Compostela (Coordinator)
  • 3edata (Technical-administrative coordination)
  • ITEC (Construction Technology Institute of Catalonia)
  • Betanzos HB
  • CETEMAS (Technological and Forestry Wood Center)

The project focuses on reducing the carbon footprint in construction through the development of building products made from certified local timber. The EcoTimberCell (ETC) system enables the creation of nearly zero-energy homes, replacing high-energy materials (steel/concrete) with CO₂ sinks.

Expected results:

Development of EcoTimberCell (ETC) construction systems and residential modules for designing passive, nearly zero-energy single-family homes.

Promote the use of locally sourced timber from sustainable forest management.

Encourage a shift from conventional high-carbon construction models.
