Guide to CE Marking Implementation for Wood Products in Construction
The “Collaboration agreement for the valorization of fast-growing forest species in Galicia and promotion of timber in construction,” signed between the Galician Forest Industry Agency (XERA) and the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), falls within the strategic framework for promoting timber construction, as defined in the Galician Forest Industry Development Agenda of the Xunta de Galicia.
The agreement has two main objectives: the first is to enhance the value of fast-growing forest species in Galicia through the structural characterization of the most representative species in the territory. The second is to promote timber in construction by supporting local products and transferring research outcomes.
The CE Marking Guide is one of the results of this agreement and aims to provide manufacturers and specifiers with practical information on the CE marking process for wood products used in construction.
The guide was prepared by the Structural Timber Platform (PEMADE) and draws much of its general content from the current Regulation (EU) No. 305/2011 of the European Parliament and Council of March 9, 2011, establishing harmonized conditions for the marketing of construction products and repealing Council Directive 89/106/EEC.
For content specific to wood products, the guide relies on harmonized standards and other documents cited in the Bibliography section.
It covers the definition of general concepts and explains the procedure via the CEN route when CE marking is mandatory and via the EOTA route when voluntary, mentioning in each case various wood products for construction with the corresponding applicable harmonized technical specifications.
Additionally, it includes specific datasheets for wood products with mandatory CE marking, indicating the essential characteristics and the applicable Assessment and Verification of Constancy of Performance (AVCP) systems.
